Writing + Journalism
In addition to my work in advertising and marketing, I've done a fair amount of writing and journalism, mainly with a focus on music, culture, and food.
Over the last decade, I've written over 100 long-form feature stories as a contributing and freelance writer for Brightest Young Things (dot com), Thrillist (dot com) and The Washington Post. The majority of these were interviews with artists and creatives that were shaping culture, such as Thundercat, Little Dragon, Helado Negro, Arthur Jafa, Kwame Onwuachi, Sylvan Esso, Jaboukie Young-White, and The Internet; others were just with people doing stuff around Washington DC that was interesting to me.
Additionally, I've worked as a ghost writer for a couple of millennial writers and social media accounts you might have heard of.

Thrillist hired me to conduct a serious piece of investigative journalism: to find the best breakfast sandwich in Washington DC. I put my body on the line to find out.
The Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing invited me up to Winooski, VT for a weekend to experience Waking Windows (a music and arts festival. I saw some great acts, drank phenomenal beer, and got a firsthand taste at what the ideal live music experience could be like.
I spoke on the phone with Yukimi Nagano, Little Dragon's lead singer and indomitable force. We discussed everything from creative 'inspiration' to the importance of taking a complete break when you need it. It was fun and mischievous and inspiring.
In addition to writing about the arts, I got the occasional chance to review restaurants for BYT. Tonari was one of the more unique ones I got to visit, with its authentic take on Japanese Italian food (not Japanese-Italian, as I would come to learn).
My friend Nick Karlin took photos and the two of us accidentally ate enough food for six people. It was worth it.
